Automobiles in Germany's City Discovered Marked with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Police reported they were notified by a man who noticed a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish fluid

Roughly fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.

Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.

The liquid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then discovered many other smeared cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials report initial examinations indicate the fluid was most likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no clue as to its source; investigators are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.

Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have asked to the residents for details.

An important political figure commented the incident left him without words and required to be resolved rapidly.

"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine victims by a gunman aiming at people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
