Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Wins First Championship in 882 Days
19 of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been won on hardcourt
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.
Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has had a difficult period, achieving just one match at the big events and suffering a setback at the US Open.
The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in particular - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with former trainer his previous coach.
Currently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Moutet.
It is his maiden trophy after the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt from spring of 2023.
The win also signifies he has secured twenty-one titles at 21 different competitions.
"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to win a championship is particularly special," said ranked player Medvedev.
"This championship is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six finals, comprising in the German tournament in the past months.
The player's counter-punching approach and regular outbursts on the tennis court had led observers to wonder if his capacity to perform at the highest level was over.
However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and perform assertively, supported by an enhanced serve.
He came back from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the last five exchanges to go ahead.
The competitors swapped service breaks in the second set before Moutet, striving for his maiden ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to create a third set.
The opponent rescued four early chances in a close final set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to close out the victory.
Fittingly, Medvedev earned victory with a point at the net, with Moutet failing to control a return after over two and a half hours.
